PALMAS DEL MAR, Puerto Rico -- The Navy women's tennis team (14-7, 0-1 PL) won a pair of matches against Division III Denison (4-5) on Wednesday on its spring break trip in Puerto Rico. Navy won the first match, 6-1, and posted a 6-0 win in the second match.
Navy dropped the doubles point in the first match, 2-1, but won all six singles matches to take the 6-1 win.
Sophomore Amanda Keller posted a straight set win at No. 1 singles over Lauren Hawley, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Keller is now 18-13 in singles play this season.
Sophomore Claudia Mackenzie defeated Courtney Brown at No. 2 singles over Courtney Brown, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Carlee Conway posted a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) at No. 3 singles over Meg Chiumento.
Freshman Josie Rogers defeated Emma Alsup at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1, junior Audrey Channell defeated Megan Hickey at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and freshman Catalina Rico won at No. 6 singles over Sarah Torrence, 6-1, 6-0.
In the second match only one doubles match was completed as Channell and freshman Anastasia Kondrasov defeated Ashley Hammons and Eleni Coleman, 6-1.
Sophomore Kristine Rojo was victorious at No. 1 singles over Hammons, 6-1, 6-3 and Kondrasov bested Carol Vitellas at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Junior Summer Ralston earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Charlotte Purnode at No. 3 singles and junior Rozel Hernandez downed Olivia Underwood at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Freshman Sabrina Jiang won at No. 5 singles over Frances Hinkamp, 6-1, 6-0 and freshman Kellyn Abbanat took down Coleman at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Navy head coach Keith Puryear won his 350th career match as a women's tennis collegiate head coach on Wednesday and improves his record to 350-171.
"Denison came out and pushed us in the first match and won the doubles, but I liked how we recovered to take control with the singles matches," said Puryear. "This was a good way to end the Puerto Rico trip and I think the matches that we played down here will serve us well as we move into the Patriot League part of the season."
Navy concludes its 2016 spring break trip with a 2-2 record in Puerto Rico.
Navy will next play at George Washington on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.
