March 24, 2016 ATLANTA, Ga. â€"â€" Navy's Tom Duvall (Sr., Durham, N.H.) opened the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship by placing 51st in the 500 freestyle event Thursday at the McAuley Aquatics Center in Atlanta, Ga. Duvall, who is competing at the second NCAA Championship of his career, posted a time of 4:26.37 in the trial heats of the event.
"We're not happy with today's result," said Navy head coach Bill Roberts. "We are going to put it behind us and get ready to compete the next two days with the best swimmers in the country."
Duvall is entered into Friday's 200 freestyle event as well as Saturday's 100 free. Additionally, Navy diver Joe Kaszubowski (Fr., Whitefish Bay, Wis.) will compete Saturday in the platform diving competition.
