ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (17-9, 3-2 PL) defeated Loyola (11-7, 1-3 PL), 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium at the Brigade Sports Complex. Navy earned its second straight Patriot League victory.
Navy won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point against Loyola.
Navy sophomores Amanda Keller and Claudia Mackenzie defeated Amanda Lanciano and Ania Krawiec, 6-4, at the No. 1 doubles slot and junior Rozel Hernandez and freshman Catalina Rico bested Megan Hahn and Julie Clark at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.
Navy then won four of the six singles matches to claim the 5-2 team victory.
Keller defeated Hahn at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and senior Sam Droop knocked off Emily Hughes at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-1.
Freshman Josie Rogers defeated Clark in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 7-5, and sophomore Kristine Rojo beat Nicole Eberle at No. 6 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Keller improves to 21-15 on the season in singles play and Rogers is now 21-5.
"It was a good team win," said head coach Keith Puryear. "It's always good to get a league win as Patriot League matches are always hotly contested. Loyola was very determined. They had good intensity and they forced us to raise our level and I thought we did a good job of that. Now we will shift our focus to our next match against Bucknell on Saturday."
Navy will close the 2015-16 regular season by hosting Bucknell on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Navy will host the 2016 Patriot League Tournament from April 21-24.
