GLADWYNE, Pa. - The Navy men's golf team bounced back from a four-stroke deficit in the opening round of the Finegan Invitational Monday afternoon to force a 10-man playoff en route to capturing its second team title of the spring season. The Mids also won the four-team Patriot Spring Invitational a month ago in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Navy (297-296=593), who prevailed on the second hole of the playoff, shot the low round of the afternoon to pull even with Drexel (293-300=593) as both teams shot a 25-over par 593 to pace the 14-team field at the historic Philadelphia Country Club. Patriot League foes Lehigh (297-297=594) and Lafayette (305-290-595) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Villanova (299-299=598) rounded out the top five. Meanwhile, Drexel's Christopher Crawford claimed medalist honors after finishing the tournament with a 4-under par 138 (68-70) and the only player to shot under par for the day.

Three Mids placed among the top 20, including low scorer Thomas Fricke (So. / Haymarket, Va.) whose opening-round 72 featured bookend eagles on the first and final holes. His second eagle was a hole-out from 100 yards on the 381-yard 18th hole. Fricke, who finished sixth with a 3-over par 145 (72-73), made clutch sand shots on both playoff holes to help seal the team victory.

Griffin Peters (Fr. / Fountain Hills, Ariz.) finished strokes behind Fricke (74-73=147) in ninth, while Connor Tallman (Jr. / Lake Oswego, Ore.) placed 17th with a 36-hole mark of 151 (76-75). Eric Terminello (So. / White Plains, N.Y.), who shot Navy's high score in the opening round with a 77, came back to finish just a stroke outside of the top 20 with a 10-over par 152. Meanwhile, rookie Matthew Starobin (Davidsonville, Md.) got off to a solid start with his opening-round 75, but was unable to maintain the momentum over the second 18 and slid to 38th in the standings with a 156 for the day.

The Mids return to action this weekend when they play host to the 37th-annual Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
