CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy senior co-captain Jules Godino (Summit, N.J.) was one of 12 student-athletes named to the 2016 Men's Lacrosse Patriot League All-Academic Team it was announced by the league office. It's the second consecutive year Godino has earned the award.

Seven of the nine member institutions -- Army West Point, Boston U., Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland, and Navy -- were represented by at least one athlete. The Black Knights led the way with three while the Bison, Mountain Hawks, and Greyhounds each had two. Six All-Academic selections were also named to the All-League team announced on Monday, including three first-team and three second-team members. Additionally, five are repeat All-Academic selections: Schultz, Sean Wilkinson, Casey Eidenshink, Brian Sherlock, and Jules Godino.

Ranked in the top 35 percent of his class in academic order of merit, Godino boasts a 3.36 grade-point average in physics. He has been named to the Commandant's List twice and garnered Dean's List mention during the fall term of his junior year after achieving a 4.00 grade-point average. Godino will graduate in May and be commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy. His service assignment is submarines (nuclear).

A starter in all 13 games this season, Godino is a veteran member of a defensive unit that is ranked #1 in the nation in scoring defense this spring. The Mids have surrendered 88 goals in 13 games and they are the only team in Div. I lacrosse to allow fewer than seven goals per game this year. As the stingiest defense in the country, Navy has held 19 of its last 27 opponents to single digits, including 9 of 13 this season. Among those nine were one-goal performances by Delaware and Sacred Heart. It's the first time since 1970 that a Navy defense has held two opponents to 1 or fewer goals in the same season. The Mids defeated the University of Baltimore, 19-0, and a week later dealt the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club a 15-1 loss. The year before, Navy held two Div. I programs to one or fewer goals, posting an 11-0 win over Hofstra and a 23-1 victory over the University of Baltimore. Meanwhile, 14 of their last 25 opponents have had scoring droughts of 20 minutes or more.

The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League team are nominated and voted on by the League's men's lacrosse sports information directors who cannot cast a ballot for their own student-athletes.
