Women's Tennis Blanks Lafayette, 7-0

April 3, 2016

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (16-9, 2-2 PL) blanked Lafayette (3-8, 1-3 PL), 7-0, in a Patriot League contest at the Tose Family Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

"It was a good team performance and I was pleased with our play across the board," Navy head coach Keith Puryear said. "This was a good one to have after the setback against Army yesterday. I thought we came out pretty quickly in both singles and doubles and we tried to pressure them a bit. Everybody played fairly well today."

Navy swept the doubles point against Lafayette, dropping only one game in the three matches. Freshmen Sabrina Jiang and Kellyn Abbanat opened the day by defeating Megan Reiling and Madison Olexson at No. 3 doubles, 6-0 and junior Audrey Channell and sophomore Kristine Rojo blanked Caroline Nixon and Rocine Moschella at No. 1 doubles, 6-0.

Junior Rozel Hernandez and freshman Catalina Rico completed the doubles sweep by defeating Catherine Senopoulos and Ally Silmes at the No. 2 position, 6-1.

Sophomore Amanda Keller fell behind Nixon, an All-Patriot League performer, at No. 1 singles, 3-0, before rallying to a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Keller improved to 20-15 in singles play this season.

Senior Logan Antill breezed past Senopoulos at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, and senior Katie Porter beat Moschella at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Senior Sam Droop won her second singles match of the weekend by beating Reiling at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and freshman Josie Rogers improved to 20-5 on the season by beating Simels at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Freshman Anastasia Kondrasov rounded out Navy's singles lineup at the No. 6 position blanking Haley Matthes, 6-0, 6-0.

Navy improves to 7-0 all-time against Lafayette.

Navy's originally scheduled match against Norfolk State on Sunday was cancelled and will not be made up.

Navy will next host league foe Loyola on Wednesday, April 13.
