ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's golf team placed fifth out of 16 teams with an overall score of 630 (310-320; +54) at the 36-hole Navy Fall Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6,085-yard Naval Academy Golf Course.
Harvard won the team title with a course-record 615 (304-311; +39) and was followed by Towson (621), Penn (623), Sacred Heart (626) and Navy (630) in the top five.
Sacred Heart senior Ellen Nighbor was the individual medalist with a course record-tying two-round score of 148 (71-77; +4). Wagner's Pascalle Tego and Towson's Jenny Buchanan tied for second place with scores of 150.
Navy's 310 in the opening round had the team in a three-way tie for second place after day one. The 310 (+22) was Navy's lowest single round in relation to par in school history. Navy dropped from second to fifth on Sunday with its 320.
Freshman Morgan Frazier and junior Legare Augenstein tied for 17th with scores of 157 (+13), which are the fourth-lowest 36-hole tournament scores in program history.
Frazier broke Navy's single round program record with an opening round score of even-par 72, which included a 3-under par 33 on the back nine. Navy's previous school record was a 74 by 2016 graduate Renata Bucher in the 2014-15 season. Frazier shot an 85 in the second round.
Augenstein shot a 79 in the first round and a 78 in the second round.
Junior Christine Walker tied for 22nd with a 158 (77-81; +14) and freshman Katie Um tied for 25th with a 159 (82-77; +15). Navy's fifth starter was junior Mary Kate Nelson, who tied for 68th with a 169 (85-84; +25).
Navy also had four players fare well while competing as individuals at the tournament with three of those players tying for 33rd place with 161s (+17). Senior captain Marci Browning shot an 82-79, junior Jane Moon shot an 82-79 and freshman Abby Schroeder shot a 79-82. Freshman Micah Vincent tied for 61st place with a 167 (78-89; +23).
"I am very proud of the team's efforts this weekend," said fifth-year head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "We were tied for second after the first round and it was great to be in contention. I'm excited to see the progress we have made in such a short time, and I look forward to the remainder of the fall season."
Eight of Navy's nine players broke 80 in at least one round in the team's first competition of the season.
Navy placed ahead of the three other Patriot League programs at the invitational. Lehigh was sixth (637), Bucknell was ninth (646) and Holy Cross placed 15th (705).
Navy will return to action next Sunday and Monday at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational.
