The top-10 ranked Crimson team led wire-to-wire over the Mids on Sunday as the Northeast Water Polo Conference squad started off fast with a 4-0 lead after one quarter. Alex Piecuch (Fr., Ladera Ranch, Calif.) cut Navy's deficit to three goals with a score at the 5:28 mark of the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Mids, the Crimson closed the period with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of play to take a 6-1 lead into the intermission.

Navy 17 - Washington & Jefferson 8
The Mids' second game of the day had a completely different beginning to it as they were the team jumping out to a commanding lead in the first quarter as they went up 4-0 over the first 4:11 of play. Taylor Bernhardt (So., Annapolis, Md.), Taylor Peterson (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Brendan Metcalf (Sr., Frisco, Texas) and Jack Orchard (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) all found the back of the net for Navy during this initial goal run. After a single Washington & Jefferson goal at 3:20, the Mids closed out the first period with goals by Piecuch, Shepherd Warren (Jr., Baltimore, Md.) and Nate Reiff (Fr., Wheeling, Ill.) to go up 7-1.
In the second quarter, the action was closer as Navy notched three goals to Washington & Jefferson's two. The teams alternated the five goals in the stanza as Metcalf opened the scoring. Markers by Nik Galvan (Fr., Henderson, Nev.) and Tyler Zimmerman (Jr., McLean, Va.) followed scores by President players to make it 10-3 going into halftime.
The third quarter was close as well with both squads netting a pair of scores. Peterson recorded his second goal of the game at the 5:58 mark of the third period, while Huber got in the scoring column with a goal at 2:52.
With the score 12-5 after three quarters, Navy salted away the victory over the final eight minutes with five more goals versus three for Washington & Jefferson. Carmody scored two goals in the period, while Ian Bagent (Jr., Norcross, Ga.), William Lowdon (Fr., Hillsborough, Calif.) and Reiff all notched solo goals.
In addition to his two goals, Carmody aided the Mids' cause with two assists and a team-high four steals. His two helpers trailed just Gabe Gaspar (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) in that category as Gaspar had a career-best three assists.
Freshman goalie Brandon Shields (Fr., Lake Forest, Calif.) played three quarters in the contest and made nine saves with seven goals against. The first-year player also added a steal and an assists.
"It's good to finish this weekend on a positive note, but we have some work to do," remarked head coach Mladen Stanicic. "We expected more from this weekend in terms of results, but perhaps we got what we really needed, ourselves tested."
This weekend served as the final tune up for the Mids before the start of their Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference schedule. This upcoming weekend Navy will be in action versus four league opponents beginning with a road matchup at Johns Hopkins on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. Following the showdown with the Blue Jays, the Mids will come home to host contests at Scott Natatorium versus Bucknell on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Wagner (10 a.m.) and Fordham (3 p.m.) on Sunday.
