ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy freshman Ansofi Wreder won a singles flight in her second straight tournament to highlight the Navy women's tennis Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational this weekend. The eight-team tournament was played at the outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium and the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.

Wreder went 4-0 to win the "C" singles flight and defeated Air Force's four-year starter Lily Forlini, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) in the flight final. Wreder opened the tournament by defeating Monmouth's Caroline Mattise, 6-2, 6-0, and then posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over NJIT's Ines Vujkovac in the quarterfinals. Wreder bested Binghamton's Samara Eisenberg in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-4, before defeating Forlini in the final.

Wreder also won the "C" singles flight at the Stony Brook Invitational last weekend with a 5-0 record. Wreder is now an impressive 9-0 on the season with two flight titles. She has also set a Navy program record for most consecutive singles wins to start a season. Current junior Amanda Keller won seven straight singles matches to open her freshman season in 2014-15.

Air Force had a strong team showing at the Moore Invitational, winning five of the six flights. Chloe Forlini won the "A" singles flight, TJ Fumagalli won the "B" singles flight and Meredith Laskey won the "D" singles flight. Jocelle Rudico and Fumagalli teamed up to win the "A" doubles flight, while Elizabeth Barnickel and Nadeen Lieberman won the "B" doubles flight.

Navy freshman Emily Louie-Meadors advanced to the "B" singles finals with three wins before falling to Air Force's Fumagalli in the championship match in a three-set battle, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9). Louie-Meadors had previously downed NJIT's Natacha Minc in the first round, 6-4, 6-1, and beat St. Bonaventure's Dominique Mortier in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1. Louie-Meadors advanced to the "B" singles flight by knocking out Navy teammate Aimee Dervishian in the semifinals, 6-2, 7-5.

"Ansofi Wreder had a tough match today in the final," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "She was able to beat a player with a ton of collegiate experience, so that was really good to see. We were also really impressed with Emily as well and the match that she played in the final. That was a match that really could have gone either way."

Dervishian went 3-1 in in the "B" singles flight, picking up wins in the play-in round, first round and quarterfinals before falling to Louie-Meadors in the semifinals.

Sophomore Catalina Rico won three singles matches in the "B" singles backdraw, winning the consolation final with an 8-6 win over Air Force's Rudico. Senior captain Rozel Hernandez won two matches in the "A" singles backdraw before falling to Air Force's Barnickel in the consolation final, 8-5.

Navy senior Audrey Channell and freshman Danika Kahatapitiya advanced to the finals of the "B" doubles bracket before falling to Air Force's Barnickel and Lieberman, 7-6 (7-3), in a close championship match. Channell and Kahatapitiya defeated St. Bonaventure's Lauren Doversola and Nicole Kozinski in the first round, 6-3, and then beat Loyola's Lin Robertson and Alex Agee in the quarterfinals, 6-3. The duo advanced to the final by knocking off Air Force's Meredith Laskey and Elisa Nelson in the semifinals, 6-1.

Navy had two doubles teams advance to the semifinals of the "A" flight. The pairing of Kaylah Hodge and Catalina Rico, along with the duo of Keller and Carlee Conway, each won two matches before dropping out in the semifinal round.

"Overall, it was a good weekend for us," said Puryear. "I thought we showed great improvement from the week before and we were able to see the things that we have been working on in practice be put into play. We had a few matches that we would have liked to have won, but I feel pretty good about where we are and the improvement that we have shown thus far this season."

Navy will next compete at the Wake Forest Invitational from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
