ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The final round of the Navy Fall Classic was cancelled Monday afternoon following heavy rain showers that saturated the Naval Academy Golf Course. It's just the second time (1992, the first year) in the tournament's 23-year history that it has been shortened due to weather.
Wagner became the 18th different program to win the tournament title after the Seahawks put together a 1-under par 283 in Sunday's opening round. Robert Morris finished 5 strokes back in second (288, +4), followed by California University of Pennsylvania in third (290, +6) and a three-way tie for fourth between Drexel, Delaware and Navy (293, +9).
Sharing medalist honors were Lafayette's Reid Bedell and Navy senior team captain Connor Tallman (Lake Oswego, Ore.) who shot a 3-under par 68 in the first round. This is the second collegiate individual title Tallman has claimed during his career. Meanwhile, a Navy player has earned medalist honors in each of the last two Navy Fall Classics (2015, Griffin Peters).
The Midshipmen are idle this weekend, returning to competition on October 1-2 when they make the trip to West Point to battle Army in the annual Star Match presented by USAA.
