Setting the Stage

• Navy and Connecticut will meet for the ninth time overall and just the second time as conference foes when the two square off on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (34,000) in Annapolis. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM with Navy Mutual serving as the presenting game day sponsor. Navy leads the all-time series 7-1 and has won two-straight against the Huskies, both in East Hartford. This will be Connecticut's first trip to Annapolis since 2002 when the Huskies shut out Navy, 38-0, in a torrential downpour.
• Tickets are still available by calling the Navy ticket office at 1-800-US4-NAVY or logging on to navysports.com. Tickets for the UConn game will also be available on the day of the game at the box office in the north end zone.
• Navy is looking to start 2-0 for the second consecutive year, while also looking to win its conference opener for the second year in a row.
• Navy enters Saturday's contest having won 11 straight home games. Its last loss at home was on Sept. 27, 2014, when the Mids lost to Western Kentucky, 36-27.
• This is the second consecutive year the Mids have opened conference play at home. Navy defeated East Carolina, 45-21, in last year's conference opener.
• Navy has won 17 consecutive games against unranked opponenets, which is the fourth longest streak in the country. Only Alabama (60), Clemson (40) and Ohio State (20) have won more.
• Niumatalolo is in his ninth year at the Naval Academy, which ties him with George Welsh and Eddie Erdelatz as the longest tenured coaches at the Naval Academy.
• Navy received 10 voting points in this week's Amway / USA Today Coaches Poll, while receiving two voting points in the initial Associated Press poll.
• Saturday's game will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network with John Sadak, Randy Cross and Sheehan Stanwick-Burch on the call.
• WBAL Radio (1090 AM) will air a two-hour pregame show on Friday night from 8:00-10:00 PM with Pete Medhurst, Omar Nelson, Joe Miller and Tim Murray.
• The Navy Football Tailgate Show on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM will air at 1:30 pm, followed by the Navy Football Magazine Show at 2:00 PM on WBAL Radio with Tim Murray hosting.
• The Navy Football Pregame Show with Pete Medhurst, Omar Nelson, Joe Miller and Tim Murray will get underway at 2:30 PM, followed by game action beginning at 3:30 PM on the Navy Radio Network. • Following the contest, Medhurst, Nelson, Miller and Murray will recap the day's events in a 30-minute postgame show.

Game Day Festivities
• Pregame festivities will get underway at approximately 1:00 PM with the Navy Football Team Walk. Originating at the Blue Angel in the southwest corner of the stadium, the team will make its way down the sidewalk and through NavyFest before walking up the drive to the stadium. Fans are encouraged to line up on both sides of the sidewalk to cheer for the team.
• The March-On of the Brigade of Midshipmen will be at 3:11 PM.
• A fly-over will take place at the conclusion of the national anthem at approximately 3:20 PM. The fly-over will be from VP-30 out of Jacksonville, Fla. One of the pilots is former Navy football player Derrick Bruce (`08), while one of the NFO's is former Navy football player Craig Almond (`08).
• There will be a parachute jumper that will be jumping into Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 3:24 PM.
• Between the first and second quarter, the Navy baseball team will be honored for last year's school-record 43-16-1 season, winning Patriot League regular-season and tournament titles and winning a game in the NCAA Tournament.
• At halftime, the Naval Academy Athletic Association will honor the 40th anniversary of women enrolled at the Naval Academy.
• Following the game, Navy's alma mater, Navy Blue & Gold, will be played as the team stands at attention in front of the Brigade of Midshipmen. It is one of the best traditions in college sports.

Scouting UConn
• The Huskies are coming off a 24-21 victory over Maine as Bobby Puyol nailed a 37-yard game-winning field goal with 11 seconds left.
• Quarterback Bryant Shirreffs was Connecticut's leading rusher with 95 yards on 20 carries. He also completed 16 of his 23 pass attempts for 162 yards. His favorite target was Noel Thomas, who caught nine passes for 70 yards.
• Running back Ron Johnson rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries against the Black Bears.
• The UConn defense held Maine to just 40 yards rushing on 19 carries. Linebacker Vontae Diggs led the way with nine tackles and two tackles for a loss, while Jhavon Williams was in on seven stops.
• UConn tied the game on a two-yard touchdown run by Arkeel Newsome with 6:36 left before Puyol hit the game-winner with 11 seconds remaining in the game.

Navy Routs Fordham In Opener
• (AP) - Malcolm Perry sat in the stadium wearing his Navy dress whites. Plucked from the stands at halftime, he wound up in a much different uniform.
• From question mark to quarterback, Perry quickly became the buzz of college football.
• Navy found an unlikely replacement after starter Tago Smith was injured last Saturday, with Perry running seven times for 30 yards in a 52-16 win over Fordham.
• Listed down on the depth chart, Perry had been sick most of the week. The freshman was OK to play in the junior varsity game Friday.
• Perry was sitting with his classmates when Smith went down with a knee injury in the second quarter.
• Perry made his debut with 38 seconds left in the third quarter. He later put together a 90-yard drive in the fourth quarter that led to a field goal. He didn't throw a pass.
• Smith served for three years as a backup to record-setting quarterback Keenan Reynolds before getting this chance to start.
• Smith flawlessly ran Navy's triple-option offense until he was hurt on a 22-yard run with 14:17 left in the half.
• In just over one quarter, Smith ran for 97 yards on 10 carries with a pair of touchdowns.
• Will Worth took over and scored on a 7-yard run that gave the Midshipmen a 28-10 lead. He also threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Toneo Gulley.
• Junior fullback Chris High ran for 176 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns, including a 70-yard scamper, in his first career start. It was the most rushing yards by a Navy fullback since 2010.
• Kevin Anderson completed 26 of 45 passes for 302 yards with a touchdown for the Rams.
• Chase Edmonds, the 2015 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, finished with 70 yards on 18 carries for Fordham, ranked No. 20 in the NCAA FCS Coaches poll.

Mids Tough Against Unranked Opponenents
• Navy has won 17 straight games against unranked opponents, which is the fourth-longest streak in the country.
• Navy's last loss to an unranked opponent came on Oct. 4, 2014, when the Mids lost at Air Force, 30-21.
• Since that loss, Navy has produced a 18-3 (.857) record with its three losses coming against Houston and Notre Dame (twice). Navy beat a ranked Memphis squad in that streak, as well.

Home Field Advantage
• Navy has won 11 straight home games dating back to the 2014 season. Navy's last home loss was to Western Kentucky, 36-27, on Sept. 27, 2014.
• The Mids are 35-9 (.795) at home under head coach Ken Niumatalolo, including 20-3 (.870) over the last five seasons.
• Navy won a program-record seven games at home (7-0) in 2015.
• Navy's 11 consecutive home wins marks the longest winning streak at home since 1953-64 when the Mids won 21-straight. During that era, Navy would play just one or two games a year at home, mostly against weaker competition, and played its premier home games in either Baltimore or Norfolk.

Chris High Has Memorable First Start
• Junior fullback Chris High, who entered Saturday's game against Fordham with 31-career rushing yards on five carries, rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries in his first career start.
• High had touchdowns runs of five and 70 yards and averaged 17.6 yards per carry.
• It was the most yards rushing by a Navy fullback since fullback Alexander Teich rushed for 210 yards on 26 carries in Navy's 35-17 victory over Notre Dame on Oct. 23, 2010, at the Meadowlands.

Common Bond
• Saturday's meeting between Navy and UConn will feature grandsons of two former Navy football teammates. Navy senior nose guard Patrick Forrestal and UConn junior quarterback Bryant Shirreffs will be on opposite sidelines, but their grandfathers, Tom Forrestal and John Shirreffs Jr., were teammates on the Mids' 1957 squad that posted a 9-1-1 record and defeated Rice, 20-7, in the Cotton Bowl.
