Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" Each of the Navy swimming and diving teams won 12 events on their way to posting sweeps of Johns Hopkins and Towson Friday evening at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis and improving their respective records to 4-0 this year. The Navy women recorded a 214-79 win over Johns Hopkins (0-2) and a 159-135 victory over Towson (1-1), while the Navy men posted a 191-100 win over Johns Hopkins (0-2) and a 180-117 victory over Towson (0-2).

Navy's women's team saw three of its swimmers earn multiple individual event wins during the meet. Leading the way was Lauren Barber (Jr., New Wilmington, Pa.) with wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.02), 500 freestyle (4:54.14) and 200 individual medley events (2:04.85). Her teammates Delaney Walz (So., Mays Landing, N.J.) and Ali Kozlina (Fr., Cranberry Township, Pa.) each won a pair of events on the evening. Walz touched the wall first in both the 200 butterfly (2:02.57) and 100 fly races (55.96), with Kozlina claiming first place in the 50 (24.24) and 100 freestyle events (51.75).

Also recording an individual event win were Maddie Runge (So., Cochranville, Pa.) in the 1000 freestyle (10:24.05), Casey Lawson (Jr., Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) in the 200 free (1:52.63), Ashley Boddiford (Fr., Oviedo, Fla.) in the 200 backstroke (2:03.34) and Kaitlyn O'Reilly (Sr., Farmington, Minn.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.76). The Mids closed the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay event.

"We had a great meet," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison. "I'm really proud with the strong second half effort. Our team brought a ton of energy that translated to many great swims throughout the meet."

After opening the men's meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, Navy's Ryan Waters (Fr., Basking Ridge, N.J.) won the first individual event of the night, the 1000 freestyle (9:29.21). He would be the first of eight different Mids to win an event. Joseph Jaime (Sr., San Antonio, Texas) and Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.) each won two events during the meet. Joseph placed first in the sprint free events (50 free: 20.92, 100 free: 45.35) and Buchter won both diving boards (one-meter: 356.93; three-meter: 370.50).

Additional Mids to win an individual event were James Wilson (So., Ephrata, Pa.), the 100 back (51.10); Chris Mayer (So., Lakeway, Texas), the 200 back (1:52.19), Michael Velazquez (Jr., Henderson, Nev.), the 200 breast (2:06.36); and Jac Cortright (So., Richmond, Va.), the 500 free (4:37.78).

The Navy men's team matched the efforts of the Navy women by winning the 200 freestyle relay.

"Overall," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts, "it was a solid performance for the program tonight. We were able to get in a lot of quality racing. I was very pleased with the approach to the meet of our team."

"Towson came in here with a really good women's diving team today and the results showed that," said Navy diving coach Rich MacDonald. "Overall, we did some positive things. Our board work was good and that gave them the chance on every dive. We just missed some of the entries. I was excited about the performance of the men. They continue to improve daily. We are very strong right now."

Navy will be back in competition Nov. 4 when both programs travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to face American, Bucknell and Lafayette.
