ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team (5-7) dropped a pair of matches to George Washington (2-3) and Delaware (2-2) on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center. George Washington defeated Navy, 5-2, in the morning, before the Mids fell to Delaware, 5-2, in the nightcap.
"As a team we are still trying to put it all together," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "These tight matches that we have been losing often come down to several critical junctures in the match. And so far this season, we haven't consistently been able to capitalize. I am confident we will learn from these experiences and will continue to improve."
Navy dropped the doubles point against the Colonials and later won two of the six singles matches in the 5-2 loss. Freshman Kaylah Hodge posted a convincing win at No. 4 singles over Taylor Nederlander, 6-0, 6-1, and classmate Meghan O'Malley swept Allison Hansen at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Later in the day, Navy swept the doubles point against Delaware to open its second match with a 1-0 lead.
Rozel Hernandez and Carlee Conway defeated Sarah Hall and Amanda Studnicki at No. 1 singles, 6-3, and Amanda Keller and Hodge bested Denny LaMachia and Sara Komer at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-3). Emily Louie-Meadors and Sabrina Jiang (N) teamed up to knock off Draga Sabotic and Brooke Pilkington at No. 3 singles, 6-4.
The Blue Hens then rebounded to win five of the six singles matches to earn the 5-2 win.
Louie-Meadors was the lone Mid to earn a singles win, beating Annie Jaskulski at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Navy will next host Villanova and Howard on Saturday, February 18.
