March 23, 2017 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. â€"â€" The first full day of competition at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship saw Navy's Bradley Buchter (Fr., Hickory, N.C.) compete in the one-meter diving event at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. He would total 309.95 points over the course of his six dives on Thursday to place 22nd in the field.
"Bradley had a great day and didn't really miss any of his dives," said Navy diving coach Rich MacDonald. "I was proud of how he competed, especially with him being a freshman. This is definitely the deepest the meet has been as with the new qualifying rules we have gotten the strongest divers in each event. In years past, his performance today would have earned him All-America honors. We are excited for him to apply the lessons he learned today over the rest of the championship."
Buchter will compete in the three-meter event Friday and the platform competition Saturday.
Navy swimmer Marlin Brutkiewicz (Sr., Mobile, Ala.) passed on competing in his Thursday event, the 200 individual medley. He will take to the pool for the first time Friday in the 100 breaststroke and will swim in the 200 breaststroke Saturday.
