INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. â€"â€" Navy's Marlin Brutkiewicz (Sr., Mobile, Ala.) and Bradley Buchter (Fr., Hickory, N.C.) both were in competition Friday at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.

Brutkiewicz took to the water for the first time at the meet today and placed 42nd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.46. Though he was just over one-tenth of a second slower Friday than his qualifying time of 53.32, he was able to improve upon his seeding heading into the meet by one spot.

"Marlin has prepared himself very well for this meet and today's race," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "He has been and is showing an excellent mindset. He got off to a good start in today's race and soon took control of his heat without overworking the first half of the event. He was solid in the second half of his race with his second 50 split being very consistent with his other top races in the event this semester."

Buchter entered Friday's second day of competition after placing 22nd on the one-meter board Thursday. He would accrue 237.50 points in today's three-meter event to place 49th in the field.

"Bradley didn't have the results we wanted today," said Navy diving coach Rich MacDonald, "but again, the lessons learned and the experience gained competing at this meet against the best college divers in the country will help him move forward tremendously. We are looking forward to his last day of competition tomorrow."

The Navy duo will close the championship Saturday with Brutkiewicz competing in the 200 breaststroke â€"â€" he was invited to the championship based upon his time of 1:54.35 in the 200 breast, which was the No. 27 clocking in the country â€"â€" and Buchter competing in the platform diving event.
