PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Navy swimming and diving teams ended Friday's first day of the ECAC Championship being contested at Rutgers atop of the respective standings. The Navy women's team totaled 163.50 points to lead second-place Penn by 39.50 points and the Navy men's team tallied 193.50 points to outdistance Columbia's second-place total by 85.50 points.

The Navy women opened the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay by eight-tenths of a second over Penn, and the Navy men closed the day by winning the 400 medley relay by 3.43 seconds over Penn.

The highest placing Mid in an individual event was Luke Nelson (Jr., Providence, R.I.) as he finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:23.74. Luke Shereston (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) would place sixth in the 200 individual medley with her effort of 1:51.96. Completing the individual events for the Mids was Andy MacGregor (So., Grand Rapids, Mich.) and his seventh-place showing in the 50 free (20.74).

Cagla Brennan (Fr., Waipahu, Hawaii) was the top Navy women's swimmer in the 500 freestyle as she placed fifth in a time of 4:54.73. Isabella Penkwitz (Fr., Sarasota, Fla.) paced the Mids in the 200 individual medley as her time of 2:06.43 placed her sixth. Lindsay Tanner (Fr., Silver Spring, Md.) also placed sixth in her event, the 50 freestyle (23.67).

Navy additionally placed third in the women's 400 medley relay and third in the men's 200 freestyle relay.

The championship will continue both Saturday and Sunday.
