Buchter Finishes at NCAA Diving Championship

March 23, 2018

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. â€"â€" Navy's Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.) concluded his slate of events at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship by placing 32nd in the three-meter springboard event Friday afternoon at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

Buchter totaled 322.05 points during the course of his six dives. Today's efforts came one day after he accrued 315.00 points to finish in 26th place in Thursday's one-meter competition.

"It was a great opportunity and experience to compete at this meet for the second time in my two years," said Buchter. "I improved a lot from last year and I'm looking forward to working with coach to improve even more next year. I learned a great deal from these few days here and am excited to start working for the upcoming season."

"Overall, I feel it was a successful week for Bradley," said Navy diving coach Rich MacDonald. "He had a solid meet, but the competition is just so strong and deep this year. Divers had to score 50 points higher to make the finals this year than they did just one year ago. Although there is a little disappointment in Bradley not earning All-America honors (top 16), we still have two more years for him to achieve that goal. I think he said it best when he said we learned a lot and was excited to start working right away for next year."

Buchter is one of 21 Navy men's divers to qualify for the NCAA Championship and is the seventh Mid to advance to the national meet multiple times in a career. The last to do so was Kevin Teague in 2004 and '06.
