PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The NCAA Zone Diving Championship came to a close Wednesday afternoon with Navy's Jake Hedrick (Fr., Hummelstown, Pa.) placing 13th in the men's platform competition.
Hedrick scored 500.70 points during his 12-dive effort Wednesday. He previously placed 27th in the three-meter springboard event.
He was one of three Navy freshmen and five Mids to compete at the meet which was highlighted by Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.) qualifying for the NCAA Championship in both springboard events.
"Overall," said Navy diving coach Rich MacDonald, "it was a great experience for the divers. It was important for them to compete with these high-level divers. It will be something we can lean on in the future.
"This was a little bittersweet, though, as it was the last meet of Nate Belch's (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) career. He is the first diver I recruited to Navy. He has been a stellar person, teammate and leader. He will be missed. It also was huge for Bradley to qualify for the NCAAs in two events. We are looking forward to his competing in Minneapolis in two weeks."
