2018 Clemson Invitational Results
SALEM, S.C. - The Navy men's golf team completed the first two rounds at the Clemson Invitational on Friday with a 35-over par 611. With storms expected in Sunday's forecast, 36 holes were played on Friday and the tournament will conclude on Saturday with the final round played at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls.
The Mids, who are just two strokes outside of the top 10 after 36 holes, put together a 14-over par 302 in the opening round and were well in the center of the pack. However, Navy struggled in the afternoon session, falling back in the standings with a 21-over par 309. Navy trails 10-place Elon by 2, ninth-place Wofford by 4 and eighth-place George Mason by 6 strokes.
Boston College (290-279=569), meanwhile, holds a one-stroke advantage over Notre Dame (285-285=570), while BC's Matt Naumec is atop the leader board with a 7-under par 137 (72-65).
Pacing the Mids going into the final round is junior Griffin Peters (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) who stands 30th with a 7-over par 151. He, along with team captain Thomas Fricke (Haymarket, Va.), shot the team's low round over the first 18 holes with a 2-over par 74. Rookie Charlie Musto (Sterling, Va.) is just a stroke behind Peters in 34th with an 8-over par 152. Musto, meanwhile, rebounded from an opening-round 78 to shoot 2-over in the nightcap.
Fricke stands 44th with a 10-over par 154 (74-80), while sophomore Thomas Garbee (Asheville, N.C.) in 51st with a 12-over par 156 (76-80) and freshman Ward Wilkinson (Ashland, Va.) is 58th with a 19-over par 163 (85-78).
Navy will close out action at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday with the final round beginning at 8:50 am.
