ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€"â€" A strong start in doubles carried over into singles to boost the Navy men's tennis team (19-10, 2-1 Patriot League) to a 6-1 victory over Lehigh (7-7, 1-2) Saturday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.

"The team played a solid match today to defeat a very competitive and strong Lehigh team," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.

The Mids began the day by sweeping the three doubles matches. The first match to finish was the No. 3 contest where Peter Lohrbach (Fr., Little Neck, N.Y.) and Andrey Majkic (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) combined for a 6-3 win over Christopher Auteri and George Cooper. Navy clinched the point when its No. 2 tandem of Greg Durham (So., Melbourne Beach, Fla.) and Gabriel Pilones (So., Bradenton, Fla.) posted a 6-3 victory over Bryant Born and Jack Petersen. Andrew Ton (Fr., Milpitas, Calif.) and Aries Wong (Sr., Bethesda, Md.) completed the sweep with their 6-4 win at the No. 1 flight over Jacob Edelchik and Harry Wang.

Navy would win the first set in five of the six singles matches to continue the momentum it gained in doubles.

The lead became 2-0 thanks to a 6-1, 6-2 win by Lohrbach over Born at No. 6 singles, then grew to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Wong over Edelchik at No. 2. Pilones claimed the fourth team point of the match when he defeated Cooper by the score of 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 5 flight.

Navy's additional winners were Durham at No. 3 and Ton at No. 1.

The Mids will be back in the Tose Family Tennis Center Sunday at 1 p.m. when they play host to Colgate.

"We will need to build upon today's success since it will be a quick turnaround for tomorrow's match," said Garner. "It will be a great opportunity and challenge to face Colgate, which is undefeated in league play."
