DANBURY, Conn. -Â The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday its weekly award winners for men's gymnastics and Navy's
Josh Williams (Fr., Cypress, Texas) was named as the ECAC Rookie of the Week in recognition of his efforts at William & Mary this past Saturday.
In Navy's first head-to-head dual meet of the season on Saturday in Williamsburg, Va. and just the third collegiate competition of his career, Williams was a key contributor in a trio of events for the Mids. He started his day with a floor exercise score of 13.4 that was fourth-best in the field. On rings he scored a 12.9 that placed him in seventh before closing his meet with a 13.6-point effort on the vault that was good for eighth.
This is Williams' first ECAC weekly award of his young career. As a program in 2019, Navy gymnasts have now collected two weekly honors as
David Toussaint was named ECAC Specialist of the Week on Jan. 15.
Williams and his Midshipmen teammates are in the midst of final preparation for the 2019 Star Meet that will be hosted by Army at West Point this coming Saturday. The action between the service academy rivals is set for 1 p.m. at Army's Lou Gross Center.
