SHELBY, N.C. – The second game of three-game series between Navy baseball (0-1) and Gardner-Webb (1-0) was suspended after the fifth inning on Saturday evening with the score tied, 2-2, at Keeter Stadium. The game is scheduled to resume on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

With the scored tied at 2-2 following the fifth inning of play, the lights at Keeter Stadium malfunctioned causing the game to be suspended due to darkness. The game is currently slated to restart at 11 a.m. on Sunday, with the third and final game of the series slated to begin at the completion of game two, weather permitting.Â

Prior the suspension, the two teams played to a 2-2 stalemate. After a scoreless six-and-a-half innings on Friday between the two teams, the Bulldogs got on the board early with a first-inning run after a sacrifice fly from Mitch McLendon plated Corey Howard.

Navy answered right back in the top of the second inning with
Jacob Williamson (Jr., Sims, N.C.) belting the Midshipmen's first home run of the season to tie the score at one.
Liam Lowery (Sr., Williamsburg, Va.) put Navy on top, 2-1, with his third RBI of the series.

Evan Lowery (Jr., Williamsburg, Va.) and break the draw. The Midshipmen tried to extend their lead but left two runners on base to end the top of the third inning.

In the home half of the fourth inning, a double from Davis Balentine scored McLendon to knot up the game at two runs apiece.Â

Both starting pitchers threw the first five innings before the game was called for the night.
Jared Leins (So., Raleigh, N.C.) allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters in his first start of the season. Landon Mitchell surrendered two runs on six hits and struck out six hitters in his five innings.

Game two of the three-game series is slated to resume at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning in the top of the sixth inning. Game three is scheduled to follow the completion of game two on Sunday at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C.
