ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's tennis team (6-3) picked up two wins on Sunday to finish 3-1 during its four-match weekend. The Midshipmen won 6-1 over Villanova and Towson at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Navy has now won six matches at home to start the season and has won 13-straight home matches dating back to last season.
"It was a long and hard weekend and I am proud with how we handled everything," head coach
Keith Puryear said. "It was really challenging to come back after yesterday and play two very competitive teams as well today. Catalina [Rico] and Amanda [Cyr] did an unbelievable job today playing two doubles matches and winning both of them 6-0 at the No. 1 spot, that was really impressive. They are showing some of the things we are trying to focus on. Aimee [Dervishian] also did a really good job today. She had a tough match yesterday and found ways to keep her match competitive yesterday, but just could not take that next step and today she came out and played lights out tennis."
Puryear also commented on how his team has performed at home. "We have really good crowd support and I think that really helps in playing matches at home where you have some people behind you. We are very comfortable at home. We have a beautiful facility and it is one of the best in the country. It is a great place to play and I think it is a great place to watch as well. It shows when we play and we feel very comfortable here."
