Navy’s Opening Series at Gardner-Webb Shifted to Home of American Legion World Series

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball's opening series against Gardner-Webb has been moved to Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C. Keeter Stadium has played host to the American Legion World Series since 2011. The dates and time of the series remain unchanged as the first game of the three-game set will be played on Friday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. Game two begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 and the series concludes on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
 
Navy and Gardner-Webb were slated to faceoff at the Bulldogs' home field at John Henry Moss Stadium, but as construction on the outfield turf continues at Moss Stadium, Gardner-Webb has shifted its home games over the first two weeks to Keeter Stadium.
 
Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium, located in Shelby, N.C., has been the permanent home of the American Legion World Series since 2011.  Built in 1976, the 5,500-seat facility has undergone many renovations over the years, the most recent being a $2.8 million upgrade in 2013.  Keeter Stadium also hosts the American Legion Post 82 and Shelby High School baseball teams.
 
The 2019 season will mark the second-straight year that Navy and Gardner-Webb begin its seasons facing off against one another. Last year, the two programs faced off in Winston-Salem, N.C. at Wake Forest's opening event of the season.
 
First pitch of the 2019 season for the Midshipmen comes on Friday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. against Gardner-Webb to start a three-game series at Keeter Stadium.
