American Athletic Conference Releases 2019 Navy Football Schedule

Mids to play six games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

2/7/2019 10:18:00 AM

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The 2019 Navy football schedule released today by the American Athletic Conference features six games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, including Service Academy rival Air Force, as well as the annual Army-Navy Game presented by USAA, which will be played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. All six home games will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network, while the Army-Navy game will be televised by CBS.

The Mids will open up the 2019 campaign with a home game on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Holy Cross.  The Crusaders finished 5-6 in 2018, including a 4-2 mark in the Patriot League.

After an off-week, East Carolina will make its first trip to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium since 2015 when the Mids beat the Pirates, 45-21, in Navy's first American Athletic Conference game.  East Carolina will be under the direction of first-year head coach Mike Houston, who led James Madison to back-to-back FCS national title games in 2016 and 2017 and won the championship in 2016. East Carolina finished 3-9 a year ago.

The Mids will have another off week after the ECU game, because the Mids will travel to Memphis on Thursday, Sept. 26 for a nationally televised game against the Tigers on ESPN. Memphis finished 8-6 in 2018, which included a 22-21 loss to Navy in Annapolis.  The Tigers started 1-3 in the AAC last year, but rallied to finish 5-3 in the conference and represented the West division in the AAC title game before falling to UCF, 56-41.  Memphis lost to Wake Forest in a thrilling Birmingham Bowl game, 37-34.

The Air Force Falcons come to Annapolis on Saturday, Oct. 5 to kick off the round-robin competition between Air Force, Army and Navy for the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy.  Navy beat Air Force, 48-45, in the Falcons' last trip to Annapolis in one of the most exciting games in the history of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Air Force  finished 5-7 in 2018.

Navy will travel to Tulsa on Saturday, Oct. 12 to take on the Hurricane.  Tulsa finished 3-9 in 2018, including a 37-29 loss to Navy in Annapolis.

The Mids will return to Annapolis for back-to-back home games on Saturday, Oct. 19 vs. USF and Saturday, Oct. 26 vs. Tulane on Homecoming.

USF finished 7-6 in 2018, including a 38-20 loss to Marshall in the Gasparilla Bowl. It will be the Bulls first trip to Annapolis since 2015.

Tulane is coming off a 7-6 season that saw it win a bowl game for the first time in 16 years when the Green Wave beat Louisiana-Lafayette, 41-24, in the AutoNation Cure Bowl.

Navy will end its season with four of its final five games away from home.  The Mids will travel to Hartford, Conn. to take on the UConn Huskies on Friday, Nov. 1.  Connecticut finished 1-11 in 2018.

After an off-week, the Mids will travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the 93rd playing of the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in the country.  Notre Dame finished 12-1 in 2018, losing to Clemson in the semifinals of the playoffs at the Cotton Bowl. The Irish are expected by most prognosticators to contend for a playoff spot again in 2019.

Navy returns home to face SMU on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Mustangs finished 5-7 in 2018.

Navy will travel to Houston over Thanksgiving weekend to take on the Cougars on Saturday, Nov. 30.  It will be the third time in as many trips that Navy has played at Houston on Thanksgiving weekend.  The Cougars will be under the direction of first-year head coach Dana Holgorsen, who came to Houston after a successful eight year stint as the head coach at West Virginia.

The American Athletic Conference Championship Game will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the home of the higher seed. The Mids hosted the AAC Championship Game in 2016.

Navy and Army will tangle for the 120th time in the greatest rivalry in all of sports on Saturday, Dec. 14 in Philadelphia.
