Baseball Sweeps Patriot League Weekly Awards

Christian Hodge, Jared Leins and Zach Stevens earned weekly nods from the Patriot League

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy baseball swept this week's Patriot League weekly awards and have now had weekly award winners for five consecutive weeks. Christian Hodge (Sr., Winder, Ga.) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, Jared Leins (So., Raleigh, N.C.) was selected as the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and for the second time in three weeks, Zach Stevens (Fr., Lexington, Mass.) earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.

This is the second career weekly honor for Hodge after being selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week on April 23, 2018. Stevens grabs his second rookie of the week accolade of the season after earning his first career honor on March 5. Leins garners his first career Patriot League Pitcher of the Week recognition after being named the rookie of the week four times in 2018.

The Navy trio paced the Midshipmen to a 6-0 week and seven-straight victories coming into this week. Last week, Navy took two road games against Villanova and swept Bucknell this past weekend to start Patriot League play.

Hodge -- who is the first league player of the week for Navy this season -- hit .435 at the plate, drove in a team-best 11 runs and had 10 hits for the Midshipmen. The senior captain also belted a pair of home runs to move his career total up to 12, which is tied for 11th all-time in the program record book. In the six games last week, Hodge was one of three Midshipmen to score eight runs. He also had a team-leading 46 putouts and two assists on defense.

Leins got the start in the second game of the weekend series against Bucknell, where he tossed six shutout innings in Navy's 15-2 win over the Bison. The sophomore surrendered two hits and a pair of walks while striking out six batters to earn his first win of the season. On the mound, Leins did not give up a hit for the first 4-1/3 innings against Bucknell en route to allowing the Bison to hit just .100 at the plate.

Stevens led the Midshipmen during the week with a .538 batting average and a .769 slugging mark. He finished the week with seven hits and eight runs scored, to go along with six RBIs. The freshman also tallied six walks and was hit by two pitches to boast a .682 on-base percentage. In the four games against Bucknell, Stevens had six hits in eight official at-bats with a double and a triple.

Prior to this week's awards, Noah Song (Sr., Claremont, Calif.) earned three of the first four pitcher of the week nods and the lone week Song was not selected as pitcher of the week, Stevens earned his first career rookie of the week selection.

Navy is back at home on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. to host Mount St. Mary's at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
