Women’s Tennis Starts Patriot League Play at Lehigh and Colgate

Navy hits the road for a pair of Patriot League matches on Saturday and Sunday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After its Spring Break matches in Florida last week, the Navy women's tennis team (17-6, 0-0 Patriot League) continues its road stretch this weekend at Lehigh (4-7, 0-1 PL) on Saturday at 2 p.m. and at Colgate (3-10, 1-2 PL) at noon to open its Patriot League slate.
 
The Midshipmen come into the week on a six-game winning streak and have compiled a record of 17-6 overall. This weekend starts a stretch of four-straight Patriot League matches for the Midshipmen who are one three teams yet to start league action.
 
During its road trip in Florida, the Midshipmen won all five of its matches and grabbed a pair of 7-0 victories over Austin College and Lees-McRae. Following a strong performance last week, Kacey Moore was named an honorable mention tennis player of the week by the league. In her four appearances in Florida, Moore went 3-0 in singles competition and earned a doubles victory in her lone doubles contest. Moore also clinched Navy's 4-3 victory over Embry-Riddle after the match was tied, 3-3. Overall, Moore has gone 20-2 in singles competition for the Midshipmen as she is lone Navy player to reach the 20-win mark. Moore has also compiled an 11-1 mark during the spring dual season.
 
In doubles competition, Navy has 10 different players with at least 10 doubles wins this season. Annalise Klopfer leads the team with 19 and has gone 19-4 during her freshman campaign. Tina Li has posted a team-best 10-2 mark during her 12 doubles matches in the spring. 
 
Junior Kaylah Hodge is nearing 100 combined wins in her career as she notched 97 wins during her three seasons at Navy. Hodge has gone 52-21 in doubles competition and 45-33 in singles action. Hodge's 52 doubles wins are eighth most all-time in program history and her .712 winning percentage in doubles in second in the program with at least 20 victories.
 
Prior to Saturday's match, Lehigh takes on Boston University for its second Patriot League dual of the season. Last time out, the Mountain Hawks had to forfeit its league opener against Loyola. Elizabeth Nowak leads Lehigh in singles competition this season with a record of 6-3. After starting the spring with three losses, Nowak has rattled off six-straight wins. The pair of Nowak and Casey Zhong lead the Mountain Hawks with a record of 6-4 in doubles, where they have played at No. 2 all spring.
 
Colgate takes on St. Bonaventure on Saturday before its dual against the Mids on Sunday. The Raiders are 3-10 overall and 1-2 in Patriot League action. Colgate dropped its first two league matches to Army, 7-0, and Bucknell, 6-1. In their last match, the Raiders took down Holy Cross in a 5-2 match. Along with its win over the Crusaders, Colgate grabbed a 7-0 win at St. Thomas and at home against Le Moyne, 5-2. Starting on Sunday against Navy, the Raiders start their final stretch of Patriot League matches with three-straight home contests to end their league slate.
 
Last season, the Midshipmen beat both Lehigh and Colgate twice. In the regular season, Navy defeated the Mountain Hawks, 6-1, and then the Midshipmen earned a 4-3 decision in the Patriot League Semifinals. Against the Raiders, Navy won a 7-0 contest in the regular season and won 4-0 in the tournament quarterfinals.
 
Navy starts the weekend at Lehigh with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa. The Midshipmen then travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate at noon on Sunday.
