Larkin Hits Milestone as Women's Lacrosse Sails Past Georgetown, 16-9

Kelly Larkin became the fourth player in Navy history to record 300 or more points in a career.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior attacker Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) tallied 10 points on the night to help lead No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse (10-3) to a 16-9 victory over No. 23 Georgetown on Wednesday night at Cooper Field. With her 10 points, Larkin now has 306 career points, making her the fourth player in Navy women's lacrosse history to reach 300 or more points.

Larkin finished the game with a career-high 10 points on four goals and a career-best six assists. It was the second time this season the junior tallied 10 points in a game and the third time in her career. Larkin finished with eight of her 10 points in the second half, including all six assists.

Larkin was joined on the offensive end by Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) who recorded a career-high five goals to go along with an assist for six points. Four of Victory's five goals came during Navy's 8-1 run to take control of the game. The five goals marked the first collegiate hat trick for the sophomore.

Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) finished the game with three goals for her fourth hat trick of the season. The junior chipped in a pair of helpers for five total points on the night. Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.) registered her first collegiate hat trick, notching a career-best three goals and an assist to tie a career-high four points.

The offensive production was fueled by the Navy defense. The Midshipmen caused 10 of the Hoyas' 15 turnovers on the night. Gil Eby (Towson, Md.) and Caroline Kwon (Cooksville, Md.) led the way with three caused turnovers apiece – career highs for both. Senior captain Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) also had multiple CTs, adding two on the night. Eby paced the team with four ground balls, while Heyward added three. Kwon, Valenti, and Anne Richter (Hinsdale, Ill.) each added two apiece.

In addition, tIhe Mids were able to convert 19 clear attempts and won 16 draw controls. Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) led the way with seven draw controls, while Heyward added four, and Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) chipped in three and two apiece, respectively.

At goal, Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) worked a complete game between the pipes en route to her ninth win of the season. The senior finished with nine saves on the night, while surrendering nine goals. It was the fifth time in the last six games that the Navy defense has held an opponent to single-digit goals.

"For us to be able to bounce back after a really tough conference loss against Loyola, it was an important win," head coach Cindy Timchal said after the game. "It was good to galvanize the team and bring us back together a bit and play some solid Navy women's lacrosse. I think they demonstrated that tonight. Tonight, there was a turning point where the game got tight and we played with poise and focused in on what we needed to do to be successful both on the defensive end, coming up with big stops, and on the offensive side, being more poised, patient and better finishers."

Georgetown wasted little time getting the game started with a goal in the first minute of action. Heyward answered with her first goal of the night just a minute later to knot the game at 1-1. Neither team was able to find any offense over the next 15-plus minutes as both defenses held the serve. The Mids were able to break through, netting back-to-back goals, as Victory and Larkin both found the back of the net. The Hoyas answered with two quick goals, but Lazarides and Larkin closed out the half with goals to send the game into halftime with Navy in front 5-3.

In the second half, Georgetown closed the gap to one on three occasions – 6-5, 7-6, and 8-7. Ahead 8-7, the Midshipmen used an 8-1 run to take control of the game. Lazarides and Larkin started the run with a goal apiece. Following a Hoya goal, Victory rattled off three consecutive scores to push the lead to 13-8. Heyward followed with her third goal of the night and Lazarides completed her hat trick before Victory closed the run with her fourth goal of the half. Georgetown scored late to provide the final margin of 16-9.
