CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the second time this season,
Annalise Klopfer (So., Palm Harbor, Fla.) was selected as the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
This also marks the third time the Midshipmen have produced the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Klopfer first earned the award on Feb. 11 and then
Samantha Choi (Fr., Warrenville, Ill.) followed a week later and earned the recognition on Feb. 18.
Last weekend, Klopfer earned a doubles win and a singles win in Navy's 4-0 win over Temple to end its homestand before Spring Break. Against the Owls, the sophomore partnered with
Aimee Dervishian (Sr., Milton, Ga.) at the No. 2 doubles spot and the pair rolled to a 6-0 win as Navy would go on to win the doubles point.
After starting the Midshipmen on the right foot in doubles, Klopfer did the same thing in singles competition as she won a 6-1, 6-1 contest at the top-seeded singles match against Stefaniya Surikova. Her win at No. 1 singles gave Navy a 2-0 lead in the match en route to the home win.
The Midshipmen finished 2-0 last week after also earning a 7-0 win to start their trip in Florida against Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
For the season, Klopfer has a record of 10-2 in singles competition in the spring and has an overall record of 15-12, which was highlighted by an 11-match winning streak. Klopfer also has a record of 8-3 in doubles play during the 2020 portion of the season with all 11 matches coming with Dervishian as her partner.
Navy concludes its Spring Break trip on Wednesday against Lees-McRae. Patriot League action for Navy gets underway for the Midshipmen on Saturday, March 21 at home against Colgate.
