Women’s Tennis Caps off Florida Trip with 6-1 Win over Lees-McRae

Navy begins Patriot League play on March 21

ORLANDO, Fla. – After dropping back-to-back matches for the first time this spring, Navy (17-4) rebounded with a 6-1 victory over Lees-McRae (6-6) on Wednesday morning at the USTA National Training Center.
 
Navy dropped just one game over the three doubles matches and then swept five of the six singles matches against the Bobcats.
 
At the No. 1 doubles spot, Miranda Deng (Jr., North Potomac, Md.) and Jillian Taggart (Fr., Fair Oaks, Calif.) rolled to a 6-0 win against Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddiu. Tina Li (Jr., Wexford, Pa.) and Irene Norman (Fr., Aurora, Ohio) clinched the doubles point after winning a 6-0 match over Jaden Acklin and Emily Kastleman at No. 3. The final doubles match featured Danika Kahatapitiya (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Kacey Moore (So., Wellington, Fla.) securing the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles versus Zeynep Cakirer and Mei Hiramatsu.
 
Brooke Bogdanovich (Jr., Suwanee, Ga.) gave the Midshipmen a 2-0 lead in the match after winning at No. 5 singles against Kastleman, 6-1, 6-0. The top of the ladder secured the win for Navy as Katreina Corpuz (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) won a 6-0, 6-2 match against Cakirer at No. 1 singles and then Deng captured a 6-1, 6-3 contest over Hiramatsu to clinch the victory at No. 2 singles. 
 
Kahatapitiya extended the Navy lead to five points after upending Shamsuddiu at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4. The lone point for the Bobcats came at No. 4 singles after Allen beat Li, 6-0, 6-2. In the final match on the court, Norman sealed the Midshipmen's 6-1 team victory after a 6-2, 6-3 win over Acklin at No. 6 singles.
 
Navy now returns home on Saturday, March 21 to start Patriot League play against Colgate at 10 a.m.
