ANNAPOLIS, Md. – With the unforeseen conclusion to the 2019-20 competition season for all collegiate teams, the Naval Academy Athletic Department has begun a series of posts titled "Sunday Salutes" to recognize and honor the student-athletes and seniors from Navy, who had their seasons cut short. The next program to be recognized is Navy women's lacrosse.
The Mids' Class of 2020 consists of
Kayla Harris,
Annalise Heyward,
Kelly Larkin,
Carley Seekamp, and team captains
Caitlin Blanche and
Natalie Irwin.
During the three-plus seasons, the Class of 2020 has accrued a 54-18 overall record, including a 24-3 Patriot League mark with 11 wins against ranked opponents. Navy went 4-0 against Army West Point, including a pair of Star Game victories and a win over the Black Knights in the Patriot League Tournament.
The women's lacrosse team advanced to the Patriot League Championship three times, winning the 2017 and 2018 titles. The Midshipmen made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, with a pair of NCAA Elite Eights (2017, '18) and a a historic run in the postseason in 2017, becoming the first women's team from a Service Academy to advance to the NCAA Final Four in any sport.
The senior class has combined for 424 goals, 245 assists, 669 points, 292 ground balls, 374 draw controls, and 129 caused turnovers. The Mids' women's lacrosse team have been ranked nationally for 38 consecutive weeks, dating back to the final poll of the 2017 season.
