ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Matt Nocita (Sr., Porter Ranch, Calif.),
Baba Kallie (So., Coatesville, Pa.) and
Cristian Coelho (So., Katy, Texas) tallied one score apiece while
Jacob Williams (Sr., Millersville, Md.) added two assists to lead the Navy men's soccer team (10-2-1, 4-2-0 Patriot League) to a 3-0 home win over Mount St. Mary's (3-12, 1-5 NEC) Wednesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
The Mids had a dominant outing on offense, outshooting the Mount 30-5 along with having a 14-0 edge in shots on goal. Kallie posted four shots, two being on goal, and a score in addition to Nocita compiling three attempts including his second goal of the season. Coelho added the first score of his collegiate career on his lone shot attempt to round out the Midshipmen scoring effort.
The duo of
David Jackson (So., Cypress, Texas) and
Zach Wagner (So., Medford Lakes, N.J.) each added an assist while
Jason Aoyama (So., Narberth, Pa.) and Williams recorded a game-high six shots and three attempts on goal to round out the top offensive performers for Navy.
"It was great to be back at Glenn Warner," said head coach
Tim O'Donohue. "Midweek games between league play can be a trap, but the guys played extremely well. We moved the ball well again and finished our chances later in the game. Now its time for us to refocus on our remaining Patriot League schedule."
Navy took control on offense from the opening kick of the contest, recording each of the first 12 shots with six being on goal. The Mids ultimately converted on their flurry of chances in the 37th minute when Nocita headed home a perfectly placed corner kick by Jackson, giving the Midshipmen a one-score advantage.
After taking its 1-0 lead into halftime, the Navy attack picked up where it left off following the intermission, tallying another seven shots prior to extending its lead to two scores in the 69th minute when Kallie played a pass through the middle of the Mount defense from Williams into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.
The Mids quickly extended their lead as Wagner sent a pass into the box that was corralled by Williams and passed on Coelho who sent a laser into the back of the net for his first score of the season at the 70:48 mark.
Navy's lead would never be in doubt as its defense turned in a stifling effort, limiting Mount St. Mary's to a total of five shots, none of which were on goal, to secure the 3-0 win.
Tyler Fahning (Sr., Victoria, Minn.) turned in his eighth clean sheet of the season, marking the most shutouts through 13 games for the Mids since recording nine during the 2019 season over that same span.
Leading the way for the Mount St. Mary's offense was Erick Villatoro who tallied two shots while goalkeeper Andrew Chwalik took the loss after yielding three scores and recording 10 saves over 90 minutes.
