Twenty-third ranked Navy (9-4, 0-2) closed out the 2021 portion of its squash ledger Friday night with a 7-2 loss to No. 13 MIT (5-3) in a neutral site match played at Virginia. Six of the nine matches were extended to at least four games which MIT capturing wins in five of the six to capture just its second win in series history.

Match Highlights
• Seniors Ryan York (Hunt Valley, Md.) and Ben Korn (Stevenson, Md.) claimed Navy's two victories, as both player became the first on the roster to reach 10 wins this season.
• Ryan York swept MIT's Joe O'Connor at #2, 12-10, 11-7, 11-9, while Korn needed five games to get past Nikhil Kakarla. Korn opened up with a 2-0 lead, but Kakarla extended the match with 11-7 and 11-9 wins in the third and fourth games, respectively. The Navy veteran stayed the course and capped the win at #5 with an 11-8 win in the fifth game.
• Junior Millen Randell (Chicago, Ill.) lost a heartbreaker at the #1 position to Aman Sanger. Randell built a 2-1 lead, but Sanger put together back-to-back 11-6 victories to secure the win.
• While Tommy Rankin (Jr / Atlanta, Ga.) would fall short at #8, it was one of the most tightly contested matches of the evening. Rankin won the first two games 12-10 and 17-15, however, MIT's Robert Williamson rallied to win 13-11, 11-9 and 11-9 to take the match.

What's Ahead
• Navy's match against Lehigh that was slated for Saturday at 3:00 pm in Annapolis has been canceled.
• The Mids will take the next month to focus on final exams and enjoy the holidays before returning to competition on Jan. 11 with a home match against Tufts (5:30 pm).
