Track and Field Tallies Several Weekly Awards

Six Navy track and field student-athletes earned Athlete of the Week recognition.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team had six student-athletes earn weekly awards for their performances at the William & Mary dual meet. Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) was selected as this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman. Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Alexa Arthun (Manhattan, Mont.) claimed Patriot League Men's and Women's Track Athlete of the Week, respectively, while Eli Lake (Blythewood, S.C.) was the PL Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Brahmir Vick (Middletown, Del.) and Alayna Schloeder (Rockford, Minn.) claimed the Leagues' first Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Navy track and field returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 as the Midshipmen travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army in America's Meet.
 
NAAA Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman
Sam Orie, Navy, Sr., Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area
- Competed in the throws for the Midshipmen, winning both the weight throw and the shot put
- Posted the second-best distance in program history (19.02m / 62-05.00) in the weight throw to win the event by nearly two meters (1.94)
- Registered a distance of 13.91m (45-07.75) to win the shot put by over a meter (1.17)
- Both her shot put and weight throw distances were ECAC qualifiers.
 
Patriot League Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Clayton Thompson, Navy, Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff ISD
- Won the 60m hurdles at the William & Mary Dual Meet with an IC4A qualifying time of 8.00
- The six-time All-Patriot League selection remains the only Midshipmen in program history to break eight seconds in the 60m hurdles.
 
Patriot League Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Alexa Arthun, Navy, Jr., Manhattan, Mont./Manhattan
- Won the 60m hurdles against William & Mary with an ECAC qualifying time of 8.81, a personal best for the junior
- Also cleared a height of 3.52m (11-06.50) in the pole vault
 
Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Eli Lake, Navy, Sr., Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood
- Won the high jump, clearing an IC4A-qualifying height of 2.05m (6-08.75) against William & Mary
- His jump was a collegiate-best and the best high jump performance under Navy Director of Track and Field Jamie Cook
 
Patriot League Men's Rookie Athlete of the Week
Brahmir Vick, Navy, Fr., Middletown, Del./Middletown
- Finished with an IC4A-qualifying time of 8.06 in the 60m hurdles, placing second behind teammate Clayton Thompson against William & Mary
- Finished 0.07 seconds shy of breaking into Navy's all-time Top 10.
 
Patriot League Women's Rookie of the Week
Alayna Schloeder, Navy, Fr., Rockford, Minn./Rockford
- Finished third in the pole vault, clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 3.67m (12-00.50) against William & Mary
- Only freshman on the Navy women's squad to post an ECAC-qualifying mark during the weekend, while finishing third behind a pair of All-Patriot League performers in Charlene Morke (2020 first team) and Stephanie Jacobs (2020 second team)
