ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman
Logan Keller (Longwood, Fla.) has been selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Keller helped the Midshipmen post three wins over the past week en route to winning his first career weekly recognition.
This marks the second-straight week Navy has produced the league's rookie of the week after
Eduardo Diaz (Fr., Miami, Fla.) won the award last week for the Midshipmen.
Keller had a strong start to the week as he went 4-for-6 at the plate en route to Navy's 16-11 victory over Coppin State last Wednesday. The freshman also scored for times and drove in three runs in the contest.
For the week, Keller hit .286 and drove in four runs while scoring four runs, driving in four runs and stealing a base for the Midshipmen. In the field, he played at both shortstop and third base over the three games and he notched five putouts and eight assists from the left side of the infield.
On the season, Keller is second on the team with five runs scored and is tied for the team lead with five RBIs.
Joe Simourian (Jr., Andover, Mass.) and
Charlie Connolly (Sr., Wayne, Pa.) were recognized as honorable mention players of the week in helping Navy win its three games this past week. Simourian hit .400 for the week with three RBIs. He also slugged .600 and reached base at a .571 clip. Connolly tossed five shutout innings against George Mason to earn his second win of the season where he struck out seven batters and allowed just three hits.
Navy is 4-0 on the year and owns the longest winning streak in the country as the Midshipmen have won their last 18 games going back to last season.
