ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy (11-6, 6-6 Patriot League) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning of game two to come from behind and beat Bucknell (7-16, 7-11 Patriot League), 6-5, to split the Saturday doubleheader after the Bison took game one in extra innings, 4-2, at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
Â
Nico Valdez (Jr., Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) finished the day going 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs while
Logan Keller (Fr., Longwood, Fla.) also drove in two runs on a pair of hits. For the day, the Midshipmen had five players with at least two hits.
Â
"Really good college baseball games today," head coach
Paul Kostacopoulos said. "The first game was a grinder. We kept battling back, kept getting chances and we just did not get the big hit. I give the guys credit, they came back – and I felt like we were behind all day – but we were able to come back and get a couple of runs in the eighth inning of game two. Our relief pitching was really good in the second game with
Colin Jones and
Nolan Jorgenson. They kept getting out of jams and giving us a chance and we snuck through the cracks in the second game.
Â
"We keep going and give ourselves chances to win," Kostacopoulos mentioned about his team's resiliency. "I have said this before, you are not always going to break through and win the game, but at the same time, if you keep giving yourself chances you are going to come away with a couple, like today."
