Navy long-stick midfielder
Jeff Durden (Sr / Cumming, Ga.) has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Div. I Team of the Week it was was announced by the organization Tuesday evening. Durden played a pivotal role in Navy upsetting 15th-ranked Loyola 14-12 last Saturday, including scoring the game-winning goal.
In addition to anchoring a defensive effort that held Loyola scoreless for the first 11-plus minutes of the game as Navy jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Durden turned in a career-high two goals in the Mids' victory, including perhaps the most important goal of his career. After Navy built a 12-6 lead midway through the third quarter, the Greyhounds came storming back, scoring six-consecutive goals to tie the game at 12-all with 4:59 remaining in the contest. Just nine seconds after Loyola's Evan James evened the score, Durden came up with the ground ball on the ensuing faceoff and fired in what would be the game-winning goal. Co-captain
Christian Daniel (Sr / Owings, Md.), who was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, added an insurance goal with under two minutes to go, while the Mids' defense held the Greyhounds to just one shot and without a goal over the last 4:59 of the game to secure the program's first win on the Greyhounds' home field.
Active on the wings of faceoffs, Durden finished the game with a career-high tying six ground balls and helped the Mids' faceoff unit turn the corner in the second half where it won 10 of the 13 draws, including each of the last three.
Navy returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to one of the greatest rivalries in college sports, the Army-Navy Game. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the game with faceoff set for 12:00 pm at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game will also be carried live by 1430 FM / 99.9 AM WNAV with Pete Medhurst and
Joe Miller on the call. Tickets ($15 adults / $10 youth 12 and under) are available online or at the stadium on game day. There will also be a $10 charge to park at the stadium.
