WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tied 7-7, the Navy women's lacrosse team (7-3, 3-2 Patriot League, 1-2 Patriot League South) scored nine straight goals to take control of the game to post a 20-13 victory against American (1-6, 0-4 PL, 0-4 PL South) on the road at the Jacobs Recreational Complex.
"It is another victory for Navy Women's Lacrosse," head coach
Cindy Timchal said. "It was Senior Day for American so they were playing extremely hard. We were trading goals with them early on. We were able to make some adjustments, score some goals, make a run, and come away with the win. Today wasn't about the score. Today was about going out and playing Navy Women's Lacrosse and we were able to do that today."
Offensively, Navy had a trio of players –
Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.),
Isabelle Thornburg (Alexandria, Va.), and
Gil Eby (Towson, Md.) – record hat tricks on the day. Victory paced the squad with seven total points, finishing with three goals and a team-high four assists. Thornburg notched three goals and an assist for four points, while Eby finished with three goals.
Lindsay Beardmore (Annapolis, Md.) and
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) chipped in two goals and an assist apiece for three points each, while
Marina Lazarides (Westminster, Md.) and
Moriah Snyder (Bel Air, Md.) registered a pair of scores individually.
Navy was 8-of-11 on the day in free-position attempts, tying for the most free-position goals in a game in program history. It was the third time the Midshipmen recorded eight free-position goals in a game.
The Mids won 15 draw controls on the day, led by Roelofs who finished the day with 11 draws. For Roelofs, it was the fourth time this season and the 10th time in her career she recorded double-digit draw controls.
Defensively, the Midshipmen caused eight of the Eagles 18 turnovers on the day.
Christine Fiore (Darien, Conn.) paced the squad with two caused turnovers. Navy picked up 16 ground balls on the day with Fiore leading the charge with three GB.

The two teams played back and forth lacrosse, trading goals for the first 23 and a half minutes of action. Knotted at 7-7, the Midshipmen closed out the first half with three straight goals to take a 10-7 lead into halftime. Navy continued the run, scoring the first six goals of the second half to push the advantage to 16-7 and take control of the game.
Navy opened the run with back-to-back free position goals by Snyder and Roelofs, while Victory closed out the half with her second goal of the contest.
