Women’s Tennis Starts Patriot League Tournament on Friday against Colgate

Navy is hosting this year's Patriot League Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Third-seeded Navy women's tennis (5-3) begins its postseason schedule in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament against sixth-seeded Colgate (4-4) on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium in Annapolis.
 
All matches of the tournament are currently scheduled to be played outdoors at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium. Fans will be allowed to attend matches played outdoors, but if weather pushes competition indoors, fans are not permitted.
 
The Midshipmen come into the week with a record of 5-3 and finished 3-2 in Patriot League matches this spring. Last time out, Navy suffered a 6-1 setback to Boston University – who enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Prior to the match against the Terriers, the Midshipmen won three-straight matches with two coming in 7-0 sweeps.
 
Throughout the spring, Navy has compiled a record of 32-16 in singles matches with the trio of Katreina Corpuz, Miranda Deng and Meghana Komarraju leading the way with five singles wins apiece. The Midshipmen have controlled the No. 6 singles spot this season as they have won all eight of their matches this season. Samantha Johns leads the team with four singles wins at the position with Stella Ribaudo chipping in with three and Casey Accola recording a victory.
 
In doubles competition, Navy has gone 16-8 overall with the junior pair of Corpuz and Komarraju leading the way with a 5-2 record over the top two positions. Deng and Jillian Taggart are just behind with a 4-2 doubles record with all six appearances coming at the top spot.
 
Colgate comes into the tournament with a record of 4-4 on the season and posted a 2-3 record in the Patriot League. The Raiders won their last two matches of the regular season after upending Binghamton and Lafayette in a pair of 5-2 decisions. Emme Levenson has paced the Raiders at the top singles spot while the pair of Rebecca Wolf and Katerina Atallah has anchored down their top doubles position.
 
Navy is 8-0 all-time against Colgate where two of the Midshipmen's victories came during the Patriot League Tournament.
 
In the league tournament, Navy holds a record of 15-10 all-time and as the No. 3 seed, the Midshipmen have a 5-4 mark.
 
The winner of the Navy-Colgate match on Friday takes on the winner of No. 2-seeded Army and No. 7-seeded Loyola on Saturday at 2 p.m. The championship match is slated for Sunday at noon.
