Bowdoin Edges Mids in First Trip to Annapolis

Despite winning two of the final three matches, the 26th-ranked Navy squash team (10-7) fell just short in its match against Bowdoin (5-3) Friday afternoon at the Prager Family Squash Facility. The 20th-ranked Polar Bears, who have now won five-consecutive matches, posted a 6-3 victory over the Mids in what marked Bowdoin's first trip to Annapolis in their 42-match history with Navy.

Match Highlights
• Navy was without team captain and No. 1 player Ryan York (Sr / Hunt Valley, Md.), marking the second match this week the Mids were without one of their top three players (Matt Wang at Drexel).
• Navy captured wins at each of the top-three positions on the ladder, sweeping all three foes.
• Navy fell behind 2-0 with losses at the No. 9 and 8 positions before Millen Randell (Jr / Chicago, Ill.) knocked off Bowdoin rookie Jack Winston at No. 1 by a 3-0 mark.
• Navy looked as though it would level the match at 2, but senior John Milligan rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Navy's Tommy Rankin (Jr / Atlanta, Ga.) in a five-game marathon (12-14, 4-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5) and extend Bowdoin's lead to 3-1.
• Bowdoin won the next two matches, including the match-clinching win at No. 7 with senior Carson Claar posting an 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 win over Navy's Gus Prager (Sr / New York, N.Y.).
• Navy answered with back-to-back win to draw within two at 5-3.
• Matt Wang (Fr / Malvern, Pa.)had the backing of his company mates to help propel him to an 11-4, 11-6, 11-9 win over Bowdoin junior Deven Kanwal at No. 2. Wang trailed 9-6 in the third game, but came back to score five straight points to secure the win.
• Ben Korn (Sr / Stevenson, Md.), meanwhile, cruised past second-year player Jackson Rho of Bowdoin at No. 3, winning 11-5, 11-9, 11-3.
• Wang and Korn are now atop Navy's wins leader board this season with 12 apiece, followed closely by Randell and York with 11.
• Bowdoin capped the match with a 3-0 sweep at the No. 5 spot in the final match of the afternoon.
