ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy rowing program will be in action this weekend with heavyweight, lightweight and women entries in the 2022 Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The teams will have five combined crews racing over the two-day regatta in four different events. Known throughout the world as one of the premier rowing competitions, the Head of the Charles will feature teams racing in a head-style contest over a three-mile stretch of the Charles River. The heavyweight junior varsity crew will kick off the action on Saturday afternoon before all three programs join the fray on Sunday.

Alumni boats lead off the series of Navy and Gold clad crews on the Charles this weekend with former Navy rowers competing in the Grand Master (60+) Eights on Saturday at 9:18 a.m. and the Men's Alumni Eights event at 10:47 a.m. The first race involving current Midshipmen is the Men's Club Eights race at 1:09 p.m. on Saturday. Navy's junior varsity heavyweight crew will take to the three-mile course on the Charles in this event and will be racing in bow No. 3. A total of 40 collegiate and club boats are entered in the Club Eights contest.

On Sunday afternoon, the Mids' top varsity heavyweight, lightweight and women's boats will compete in their respective Championship Eights events. Run concurrently at 1:38 p.m., there are 25 entries in the heavyweight classification, while 15 boats are taking aim at the lightweight title. Navy's heavyweights will have bow marker No. 11, while the Mids' lightweight brethren will be racing in bow No. 6 and No. 15. At the conclusion of the two men's competitions, the women will traverse down the Charles in Event No. 66, the Women's Championship Eights at 2:11 p.m. The Mids in bow No. 26 will be racing as one of 29 entrants.

Last year in Boston at the Head of the Charles, the Navy rowing program proved it was up to the task with four top-10 performances over Saturday and Sunday, including a podium finish by the Mids' heavyweight second varsity boat in the Club Eights. Navy's second lightweight placed ninth in that same event. In the Championship Eights classification, the Navy Lights clocked in sixth overall, while the heavies ranked tenth overall.

Since its origin in 1965, the Head of the Charles Regatta has drawn the best crews from around the world to compete along the Charles River. The three-day event attracts over 11,000 athletes and 400,000 spectators. 

For the best view of the regatta, spectators are suggested to the watch between the Anderson and Weeks bridges, near the halfway point of the course.
