BOSTON - The 2022 Head of the Charles Regatta featured all three programs from Navy in action this weekend. Racing in four combined events, the first varsity eight crew from the lightweight team took top honors as it just missed finishing on the podium with a fourth-place result in the Men's Lightweight Eights contest. In total, the Mids took on a top-notch national and international field of opponents in the Men's Club Eights, Men's Championship Eights and Women's Championship Eights events in the world-renowned head-style regatta on the Charles River.
The junior varsity heavyweight eight crew was the first team of Midshipmen on the water this weekend in the Men's Club Eights race on Saturday afternoon. One of 39 boats in the field, the crew of

Zack Shieh turned in the sixth-fastest times at each of the Riverside, Weld and CBC checkpoints before crossing the finish line with a time of 14:42.556, that was good for sixth overall. The Mids' time was 5.84 second shy of the fifth-place finishing Big Green of Dartmouth.
The first varsity heavyweight team also led off the action on Sunday in event No. 63, the Men's Championship Eights. Taking on a field of five international crews, the U.S. National Team and 19 collegiate squads, Navy finished the three-mile race in 23rd place at 14:29.745.

The lightweight program took the spotlight next in the Men's Lightweight Eights race. Going up against a field 15 teams, most of whom the Mids will race against in the regular season and again in the Eastern Sprints and IRA National Championship events, the Mids' first varsity crew turned a time of 14:09.885 to rank fourth overall. They just missed garnering a bronze medal by 2.036 second as Yale clocked in at 14:07.849. Navy's lineup in the first boat was

The fall action will slow down a bit for all three teams as only the plebes from the heavyweight program will be racing next weekend at the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday, Oct. 29. The full heavyweight and lightweight programs will be in action on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Princeton Chase, while the women will next be in competition at the Rivanna Romp in Virginia on Sunday, Nov. 13.
