No. 17 Women’s Lacrosse Routs Bucknell, 15-3, to Open Patriot League Play

Navy jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back, starting conference play with a 15-3 victory.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 17 Navy women's lacrosse team (7-1, 1-0 Patriot League) posted a 15-3 victory over Bucknell (3-5, 0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Midshipmen opened the game with a 9-0 run and never looked back en route to the 12-goal victory.
 
"It was an outstanding game for us today," head coach Cindy Timchal said. "It wasn't perfect, but we had an opportunity to get some players into the game that have shown a lot of promise for us. We had some young players come in. I am really proud of how our assistant coaches put together a wonderful game plan defensively and offensively to work together as a team. I thought our defense played tough and our offense was clicking. Now, we have to turn our attention to Georgetown on Wednesday."
 
Offensively, the Mids tallied 24 points on 15 goals and nine assists. Nine different Midshipmen scored goals on the afternoon, including five athletes who posted multiple goals.
 
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored a career high six points, finishing the day with a team-high three goals and three assists. Lindsay Beardmore (Annapolis, Md.), Kasey Dietzel (Warrington, Pa.), Bobbie Haney (Woodbine, Md.), and Gil Eby (Towson, Md.) each added two scores apiece, while Leelee Denton (Nashville, Tenn.), Tori DiCarlo (Rosemont, Pa.), Lola Leone (Bay Shore, N.Y.), and Charlotte Ryan (Tully, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
 
Roelofs led the team with three assists, while Ryan added a pair of helpers. Beardmore, Dietzel, Isabelle Thornburg (Alexandria, Va.), and Jade Torres (Prince Frederick, Md.) contributed an assist apiece.
 
Defensively, Navy used three goalies to record nine saves, limiting the Bucknell offense to just three goals. The Mids caused five turnovers, while picking up 17 ground balls.
 
Jo Torres (Prince Frederick, Md.) earned the start at goal. The sophomore worked 43 minutes, allowing a goal with six saves. Emma Richardell (Bethesda, Md.) surrendered a goal, while notching three stops in 15 minutes of action. Anne Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) closed out the game, working the final two minutes of action with one goal allowed.
 
Grace Loughery (Perkasie, Pa.) led the team with two caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Eby picked up an additional four ground balls and Erin Finley (Downingtown, Pa.) added a pair.
 
Dietzel and Roelofs paced the team with five draw controls apiece, combining to win 10 of Navy's 12 draws on the day.
 
Navy opened the game with a 9-0 run to take control of the game and never look back. Six Mids scored in the during the run. Roelofs scored all three of her goals in the run, adding a pair of assists in the process. Eby joined Roelofs with multiple goals, netting a pair in the during the run.
 
Bucknell scored to trim the margin to 9-1, but Navy followed with the next four goals to push the advantage to 13-1. The Bison scored their second goal in the fourth quarter, but the Midshipmen followed with back-to-back scores to extend the advantage to 15-2. Bucknell rounded out the scoring with a goal with 11 ticks on the game clock to provide the final margin.
 
Navy returns to action next week with a pair of home games. The Midshipmen open the week with a nonconference game against Georgetown at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, before closing out the week with a Patriot League matchup against Lehigh at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
