#22 Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Lafayette, 17-5

Nine different Midshipmen scored as Navy cruised to the victory.

EASTON, Pa. – The No. 22 Navy women's lacrosse team (9-2, 3-0 Patriot League) posted a 17-5 road victory over Lafayette (1-8, 0-3) on Wednesday night at Fisher Stadium in Easton, Pa. Nine different Midshipmen scored goals in the game, including seven who notched multiple scores.

"It was a great decisive win for Navy women's lacrosse on the road," head coach Cindy Timchal said. "Despite Lafayette's record, I thought they played us tough. They gave us their best, clawing and scrapping throughout the game. I am proud of the way team played hard to earn a win on the road during the midweek. It was highlighted by multiple players getting into the game and being able to score. We were able to control the draw circle. I thought Reagan and our wins did a tremendous job with the draws. Defensively, I thought Jo played a good game at goal. It was a total team effort, and I am proud of the team tonight."

Offensively, the Midshipmen had nine different players score goals in the game, including seven who notched multiple goals in the game. Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) led all scorers with five points on three goals and a pair of assists. It was the sixth consecutive game with a hat trick for the offensive captain. Leelee Denton (Nashville, Tenn.), Kasey Dietzel (Warrington, Pa.), Gil Eby (Towson, Md.), Lola Leone (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Charlotte Ryan (Tully, N.Y.), and Isabelle Thornburg (Alexandria, Va.) added two scores apiece, while Lindsay Beardmore (Annapolis, Md.) and Bobbie Haney (Woodbine, Md.) rounded out the scoring with a goal each.

Defensively, Navy caused eight of Lafayette's 12 turnovers in the game. Seven different Mids had caused turnovers with Haney leading the way with two.

At goal, Jo Torres (Prince Frederick, Md.) earned the victory logging a majority of minutes between the pipes. The sophomore surrendered just five goals in 55 minutes of action with nine saves. She gave way to Emma Richardell (Bethesda, Md.) who worked five scoreless minutes with a pair of saves.

Lafayette was the first team to score, netting a goal two minutes into the game. Navy responded with five straight scores to take the lead. Roelofs started the scoring with Lindsay Beardmore (Annapolis, Md.) following with a goal to give the Mids the lead. Denton continued the run with Thornburg and Ryan rounding out the scoring. The Leopards halted the run with a goal, but the Midshipmen closed out the first quarter with goals by Dietzel and Roelofs to lead 7-2 after one stanza.

In the second quarter, the defense for both teams limited opportunities. Leone scored back-to-back goals in the second period for the only scoring by either team. Torres notched four saves in the second quarter, holding the home team scoreless in the frame.

Navy opened the second half with a 5-0 run to push the lead to 14-2. Ryan started the run with Haney following with a goal. Eby and Roelofs combined to score the next three goals to push the advantage to 12. Lafayette closed out the quarter with three straight scores.

In the fourth quarter, the Midshipmen outscored the Leopards 3-0 to provide the final margin. Denton, Dietzel, and Thornburg scored goals in the fourth quarter, while Torres and Richardell combined for three saves to keep the home team out of the net.

Navy returns to action this weekend as the Midshipmen travel to Hamilton, N.Y. for a Patriot League game against Colgate (2-9, 1-2). The game, which is slated for 1:00 p.m., will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
