ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team earned its second Patriot League victory in as many matches when it (19-9, 2-0) posted a 5-2 win over Lehigh (7-6, 2-1), Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa.  In addition to the win over Lehigh on Saturday, the Mids also lost a 4-1 decision to No. 39 VCU (13-6) in a match played in Richmond, Va.

The doubles point between the Mids and the Mountain Hawks came down to the last match to finish.  Lehigh first won a 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles, then Navy's Jake Fishkin (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) and Derrick Thompson (Sr., Towson, Md.) won a 6-3 match at No. 1 doubles.  The Navy tandem of Jack Dabek (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) and Jack McBride (Sr., Chapel Hill, N.C.) defeated Michael Bukhalo and Matt Kleiman, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles to give the point to the Mids.

Navy then won the first three singles matches to finish to secure the overall victory.  Gavin Segraves (Jr., Charlottesville, Va.) won a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles to make the score 2-0.  McBride followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 flight.  Earning the match-clinching point was Sasha Panyan (So., Lutherville, Md.) with his 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles.

Earning the last point for the Mids was Dabek as he won a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 match at the No. 5 flight.

"It was a great environment today," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.  "Jake and Derrick along with Jack and Jack played well to give us the very competitive doubles point.  All of our players handled the outdoor conditions well, and that led to Gavin, Jack and Sasha winning in straight sets to get us to four points."

In Virginia, VCU won the first two doubles matches to finish to take a 1-0 lead.  The remaining match that was halted saw Navy's Finn Garner (Jr., Arnold, Md.) and Luke Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.) holding a 4-3 lead on Inigo Torre Martin and Rayne Stable at the No. 1 flight.

Navy tied the match at 1-1 when William Pak's (So., Chantilly, Va.) opponent at No. 5 singles, Tom LeBlanc, had to retire with Pak leading, 5-4, in the first set.  The Rams won straight-set matches at Nos. 4, 6 and 3 singles, respectively, to clinch the victory.

"VCU showed why they are nationally ranked," said Navy associate head coach John Moreland.  "William did a nice job of forcing play during his singles match."

Navy will play another split-squad doubleheader Sunday as the Mids will play Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m. and at Columbia at 4 p.m.
