HELLERTOWN, Pa. — Navy returned to the Steel Club on Saturday morning for the second round of the Patriot League Men's Golf Championship where the Mids shaved 10 strokes off their opening-round score, shooting a 10-over par 298 for the day. Despite its improvement, Navy remains seventh in the team standings heading into the final round of competition slated to begin Sunday at 8:00 am.
Both
Nicholas Klock (Moraga, Calif.) and
Keegan Shreves (Jr / Potomac, Md.) shot the low round of the tournament thus far for the Mids with a 2-over par 74. Klock pushed up from 14th to 10th and in contention for All-Patriot League recognition with a 5-over par 149 (75-74). Meanwhile, Shreves, who tied for third a year ago at the conference championship, is just 2 strokes back from Klock in 17th with a 7-over par 151.
Benjamin Valdez (Fr / Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) improved upon his opening-round 76 with a 75 and is level with Shreves in 17th. Team captain
Chad Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) stands 27th with a 9-over par 153 (76-77),
Andrew Wilkinson (Fr / Ashland, Va.) is 39th with an 12-over par 156 (81-75) and
Braxton Tracy (Jr / Huntersville, N.C.) is 48th with a 26-over par 170 (85-85).
Tournament Notes
• Loyola, who was tied with tournament host Lafayette for the lead after the first round, separated itself from the field with its 2-over par 290 on Saturday to take a 6-stroke lead over Colgate. The Greyhounds are 8-over with a 584 (294-290).
• Colgate made the move from fifth to second after turning in a 3-over par 291 in the second round. The Raiders are 14-over (299-291=590) and hold a 1-stroke lead over Lafayette.
• Teams four through seven are separated by just 3 strokes - +23 Lehigh (297-302=599), +23 Army (301-298=599), +24 Holy Cross (297-303=600), +26 Navy (304-298=602)
• While Loyola has just 2 players among the top 10, Carlo Pizzano is leading the field with a 4-under par 140 (72-68) and Brandon Berry is third at 1-under (72-71=143).
• Colgate, meanwhile, has 4 players among the top 10, led by Jack Maguire in fifth with a 2-over par 146 (73-73).
• Just 3 players head into the final round under par - Loyola's Carlo Pizzano 140 (-4), Lafayette's Ryan Tall 142 (-2) and Loyola's Brandon Berry 143 (-1).
