Navy Sweeps Bucknell, Will Play Army Sunday in League Final

Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The top-seeded Navy men's tennis team (31-10) posted a 4-0 victory over fourth-seeded Bucknell (10-17), Saturday morning in a Patriot League Tournament semifinal round match contested in Annapolis.  The victory advances Navy into Sunday's 1 p.m. championship match where it will face No. 3 Army.

Sunday's match will be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts if the weather allows it.  Otherwise, the match will move indoors to the Tose Family Tennis Center.

Today, the Mids needed just 25 minutes to take a 1-0 lead as both of their Nos. 1 and 3 doubles teams did not drop a game in winning their respective matches.  The No. 3 tandem of Jack Dabek (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) and Luke Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.) were the first team to finish, with the No. 1 pairing of Sasha Panyan (So., Lutherville, Md.) and Derrick Thompson (Sr., Towson, Md.) following shorty thereafter.

Navy then won the first set in five of the six singles matches.

"The team was able to secure the doubles point and then get off to a good start in singles," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.

Scoring the team's second point was Jake Fishkin (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) as he posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ink Chen at the No. 5 flight.  Panyan made the score 3-0 when he registered a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles against Nicolas Grunig.  Closing out the match was Jack McBride (Sr., Chapel Hill, N.C.) with his 6-1, 6-1 win over Michael Owen at No. 4 singles.

"Jake built a nice lead that he was able to maintain throughout both of his sets," said Garner.  "Sasha looked to be doing the same, but give credit to his opponent as the second set was more competitive than the first.  Jack was really solid in winning a straight-set match."

Thompson led Harrison Gold, 6-3, 4-5, at No. 1 singles when play was halted.  Additionally, Finn Garner (Jr., Arnold, Md.) was leading Tim Zelokovsky, 6-4, 2-2, at No. 3 and Gavin Segraves (Jr., Charlottesville, Va.) lost the first set of his No. 2 singles match to Nick Mueller, but held a 5-2 lead in the second set.

Navy defeated Army, 4-1, last weekend in Annapolis.
