HELLERTOWN, Pa. —
Keegan Shreves (Jr / Potomac, Md.) shot a 6-over par 222 in the final round to garner Second-Team All-Patriot League honors, while Navy as a team closed out the 2021-22 campaign on Sunday by placing eighth at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Lafayette at the par-72 Steel Club in Hellertown, Pa. The Mids put together rounds of 304, 298 and 299 to finish 37-over (901).
Shreves entered the final round of competition in 17th place, but his 1-under par on Sunday helped catapult him into a four-way tie for 10th in the final standings and his second all-conference citation in as many years. He finished the 54-hole tournament with rounds of 77, 74 and 71 (222) with his 71 being the low round by a Navy player over the weekend.
Nicholas Klock (Moraga, Calif.) shot a 5-over par 77 in the final round, sliding out of the top 10 and into 20th with a 10-over par 226 for the tournament.
Andrew Wilkinson (Fr / Ashland, Va.) and
Benjamin Valdez (Fr / Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) placed 30th in what was their first Patriot League Championship appearance. Wilkinson improved his score over the last 2 rounds, as he opened with an 81 and followed with a 75 and a 73. Valdez, meanwhile, was fairly consistent with a 76, 75 and 78 for a three-round mark of 229. Team captain
Chad Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) turned in a 16-over par 232 (78-77-79) to place 37th, while
Braxton Tracy (Jr / Huntersville, N.C.) finished 48th with a 35-over par 251 (85-85-81).
Both Klock and Wilkinson recorded eagles in the second round and were among 13 players who recorded eagles over the tournament.
Tournament Notes
• Loyola claimed the team title for a second year in a row, as the Greyhounds shot a 5-over par 869 (294-290-285).
• Lafayette's Ryan Tall and Loyola's Carlo Pizzano finished tied for first with a 4-under par 212. Tall, however, went on to win a playoff on hole one to earn medalist honors.
• Ryan Tall (Lafayette) was named the Men's Golfer of the Year, Army's John Heckel Jr. was named the Men's Golf Rookie of the Year and Colgate's Keith Tyburski was named the Men's Golf Coach of the Year
