Jorgenson, Smith and Stevens Selected to Academic All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Navy baseball team was represented by the trio of Nolan Jorgenson (So., Eastvale, Calif.), Colin Smith (Jr., Wilmington, Del.) and Zach Stevens (Sr., Lexington, Mass.) on the Academic All-Patriot League team, announced by the league office on Thursday.

This is the second-straight academic all-league honor for Stevens, while the duo of Jorgenson and Smith each earned the academic recognition for the first time. Additionally, Thursday's accolades mark the first time in program history that Navy has had three honorees named to the Academic All-Patriot League team.

Stevens – who is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a 2021 CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American – started all 43 games he appeared in during the 2022 season. The senior standout finished his 2022 campaign tied for the team lead in home runs with four, while also recording two triples, three doubles, 19 RBIs, 19 runs scored, a .343 on-base percentage and a .371 slugging percentage.

In the classroom, Stevens – who will commission as a Navy pilot following graduation - has a 3.84 GPA as an operations research major. He has also been named to the Naval Academy's Superintendent's List once, the Commandant's List five times and the Dean's List five times. Following each of the previous three seasons, Stevens was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in addition to his aforementioned recognition by CoSIDA.

Jorgenson proved to be one of the top relief pitchers in the Patriot League over 21 appearances and 42.1 innings pitched in 2022. The sophomore posted a 3.40 ERA, along with recording a save, striking out 17 batters and walking just seven. Of his 21 appearances this season, 12 were scoreless, along with six of the outings lasting two innings or more.

In addition to his efforts on the field, Jorgenson has recorded a 3.90 GPA while majoring in operations research. The sophomore was recognized last spring for his academic prowess, as he was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Rounding out the Navy presence on the Academic All-Patriot League Team was Smith, who enjoyed a breakout campaign at the plate in 2022 en route to being named a Second Team All-Patriot League selection earlier this week. The junior hit .309 with three home runs, nine doubles, 23 runs scored and 32 RBIs, along with stealing five bases and walking 10 times. Smith also posted a .428 slugging percentage, which was the second-best mark on the team, and reached base at a .367 clip.

The junior is majoring in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and has a 3.20 cumulative GPA. Smith was recognized for his academic accomplishments following his sophomore season, as he was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the first time in his career.

To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player for his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
