ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 14 Navy heavyweight and No. 2 lightweight crew programs will each be taking part in the 2022 Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Sprints on Sunday in Worcester, Mass. at Lake Quinsigamond. The event annually hosts some of the top rowing squads from across the country in a day-long competition. The heat racing begins at 8 a.m. before championship final action kicks off at 1:24 p.m. 11 different crews will be racing under the Navy Crew banner with six boats from the heavyweights and five representing the lightweight program.

In heavyweight action, Navy's first and second varsity eight crews are seeded tenth overall, while its third and fourth boats are seeded seventh, respectively. One of seven squads entered in the fifth varsity eight event, Navy is seeded third in the field.
No rankings for the lightweights have been publicly announced.
Scouting the Opposition
The heavyweight field at the 2022 EARC Sprints is 15 teams deep and consists of Boston U., Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, Holy Cross, Navy, Northeastern, Penn, Princeton, Syracuse, Wisconsin and Yale.
In the lightweight competition, nine programs will be racing in Worcester, with the following field: Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, Navy, Penn, Princeton and Yale.

The Navy heavyweight crew program had a strong all-around performance at the 2019 Eastern Sprints as all six entries finished in the top-10, including medal-winning results from the Mids' fifth and sixth varsity boats. Overall, Navy raced in three grand finals and three petite finals on the Lake Quinsigamond course. As a program, Navy placed ninth overall in the Rowe Cup standings, its highest ranking since 2015.

The lightweight team had an even better day at Lake Quinsigamond with five top-three performances by its six boats at the Eastern Sprints. The Mids' depth was showcased as its first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth varsity crews all came away with medals. Navy's third crew highlighted the all-day action with a victory in its respective classification, while its first varsity came in third to earn its best finish since 2006. The Mids placed third in the Jope Cup standings for their overall program effort.
